Growing conditions:
Not for the faint of heart! Vicious frost on April 5th and 6th recorded 25 degree mornings. No need for thinning as crops averaged about 50% of normal after a rather warm summer, harvest was earlier than average at Victor Hugo. The light crop allowed grapes to be harvested at optimum maturity producing beautiful wines.
Winemaking:
All of the grapes were hand harvested and then whole cluster pressed while still cool. The juice was chilled overnight prior to barreling to ferment in seasoned French oak barrels, this rose was aged on its lees passively prior to blending allowing bottling with minimal filtration.
Tasting notes:
Enticing aromas of kiwi and cherries predominate with some subtle hints of citrus in the background. This wine has a somewhat fleshy, supple mid-palate followed by a clean, crisp finish.
Cellaring:
No need for lengthy aging. This delightful wine is designed to be consumed while young and fresh. While traditionally chosen for warm spring and summer days, this wine will enhance all classic fall and winter holiday feasts.
Food selection:
As you might have surmised from the reference above, we feel this is the wine for all poultry courses, salmon and sundry appetizers. It is wonderful with picnic or sit-down lunches, serving well as the soup or appetizer course wine for multi-course dinner events.
